Having a baby is an exciting and memorable experience. One of the rites of passage for this experience is cutting the umbilical cord that links the mother and the child. Often, the father or another family member is the one who performs this honor. The umbilical cord is usually cut soon after the baby is born, within one minute of birth. However, researchers now suggest that delaying the cutting of the cord might offer health benefits for the baby.
