Getting Pregnant With PCOS – Doesn’t Have To Be a Problem!
PCOS or as it’s otherwise known Polycystic ovarian syndrome, is responsible for infertility in around 70% of today’s women struggling to get pregnant. The main problem is that you don’t know when you will ovulate, or if you will ovulate at all.
PCOS is an hormonal imbalance, and although an egg may form in the ovary, it will never mature enough to burst free. Eventually it will turn to a cyst on the ovary. Only occasionally will the egg ripen and continue it’s journey down the fallopian tube. So you can see how getting pregnant with PCOS might be considered an impossible task, when you may only ovulate a couple of times a year – if at all.
Insulin is the main culprit in PCOS, as it affects what hormones that the pituary gland releases. It also directly affects the amount of male hormone produced in the ovaries when the egg fails to ripen.
PCOS and infertility – Who can help?
Your Doctor can help with the balance of hormones which will aid ovulation, using certain medication. Clomid is one type of drug that you may be offered. There are also other treatments which your doctor may discuss with you, such as ovarian drilling and IVF.
PCOS and infertility – What you can do to help
There are of course things that you can do to help with the condition.
If you are overweight, you could try to loose a little. Eating healthily is always a good thing, whether trying to get pregnant with PCOS or not. When doing your weekly shop, fill your basket with lots of fruit and vegetables. As well as containing lots of vitamins, fruit and veg help to flush out toxins in your body.
Beware of the amount of meat that you eat. Much of today’s meat is pumped full of hormones at the farm to make it look ‘better’ on the supermarket shelf. Although this may be pleasing to the eye of the prospective buyer, it will do nothing if you are struggling with your fertility. Some supermarkets are now offering a ‘hormone free’ range of meats, try looking out for them.
Cutting back on certain foods and drink can help, and one of these foods is white bread. White bread can spike your insulin levels, which is exactly what you don’t want to happen. The same goes for certain fruit juices.
Many women are now days are looking to alternative help for PCOS and infertility. Some ancient Chinese herbal medicines are claimed to do wonders for getting pregnant with PCOS.
The holistic approach to many problems is becoming more widely accepted by women all over the world. And as a natural approach that isn’t invasive or extremely expensive, it’s well worth taking a look at.
